Emi Restaurant and Hotel Review

The Emi Restaurant and Hotel in Lippo immediately caught my attention thanks to its glowing reviews on TripAdvisor, so I decided to book my Sunday lunch there. Located just a short walk from the town square, this restaurant and hotel turned out to be a delightful find.

After spending the morning out of town looking for a place to eat, I came across this restaurant in Lippo di Calderara di Reno online, thanks to the positive comments. Within minutes, I made a reservation online. The confirmation arrived quickly, and soon we were standing in front of the restaurant’s large glass windows, ready to enjoy an excellent meal.

A Warm Welcome at the Emi Restaurant and Hotel

Here we are at the table! With so many tempting options on the menu, it was hard to decide what to choose. Meat, fish, pizza… they really have it all! Fortunately, Emi (short for Emanuela) guided us with her warm and friendly advice, helping us pick the perfect dishes for our tastes. Her recommendation? The fresh pasta.

Curious about how their pasta dough is prepared—something I’ve always been passionate about (perhaps I was a pasta maker in a past life!)—I asked Emi for some details. She proudly explained that in the kitchen, Mrs. Angela rolls out the dough by hand every day with great care, just like a true Bolognese grandmother. How could we not trust her?

Passatelli radicchio e salsiccia

The first dish arrived, and I immediately noticed the size of each passatello. A great start to our meal! The deeply ridged texture of the pasta captured the sauce beautifully. The radicchio’s bitterness was perfectly balanced by the savory sausage, creating a harmonious and satisfying flavor.
These passatelli were so delicious that I finished the plate in just two minutes.

Turmeric Tortelli Stuffed with Fresh Cheese

This was the gourmet touch that elevated our lunch to an unforgettable experience. The recipe is a closely guarded secret, adding an air of mystery to a dish that was truly extraordinary. The fresh pasta was perfectly made, with the edges of the tortelli left slightly al dente.

The sauce, with its vibrant yellow hue, was creamy and flawlessly balanced. The addition of finely chopped chives gave the dish an elegant finish, adding that extra special touch.

Words cannot fully express my delight, but the clean plate at the end (thanks to a satisfying bread “scarpetta”) spoke volumes about my enjoyment.

Tagliatelle with ragù

Our final dish was a classic of Bolognese cuisine: tagliatelle with ragù. I’m a bit particular about this dish, as it seems simple but can easily go wrong. Here, the tagliatelle were thick and slightly rough—just as they should be!

The ragù was spot-on: rich and concentrated, neither too runny nor overly greasy, made to pair perfectly with this pasta. Angela’s expertise was evident in every bite. When you think of an ideal plate of tagliatelle, this is exactly what it should be.

Sweet Endings

We ended our meal with a traditional Italian dessert: zuppa inglese, a perfect conclusion to this hearty and comforting lunch.

At the end of the meal, we felt truly at ease as we chatted with the owners. Emi Restaurant and Hotel is a family-run business, distinguished by its careful selection of ingredients, elegant yet unpretentious service, and the warm smiles that create a welcoming atmosphere—something often missing in more upscale restaurants.

Another highlight was the price, which was perfectly balanced given the quality and satisfaction they provided, making it a great choice for a convivial Sunday meal.

Even though I usually avoid revisiting the same places, I’d gladly return here—perhaps in the evening to try their pizza, which looks just as promising. With its delicate flavors and warm atmosphere, it feels like coming home.
