Parco Giardino Sigurtà: Spectacular Burst of Nature in Valeggio sul Mincio

by 9, Sep, 2020Italy, Veneto

Here’s one of the destinations I had long wanted to visit and finally had the chance to explore: the stunning Sigurtà Garden Park in Valeggio sul Mincio, near Lake Garda, in the province of Verona. Its beauty had already captivated me through photos I had seen before, but being there in person exceeded all my expectations.

This year, with limited chances to plan trips in advance, I opted for last-minute excursions. While many chose to head to the beaches, I decided to take the highway in the opposite direction, towards Veneto and Lake Garda. The traffic was smooth in my direction, while the opposite side was chaotic.

The best time to visit the park is in spring, from March to June, when the flowers are in full bloom. However, the variety of plants and colors makes the garden an extraordinary sight even in summer. It’s no surprise that the park has received major accolades, including “Most Beautiful Park in Italy 2013” and “Second Most Beautiful Park in Europe 2015.”

Admission costs €14.50, allowing you to enjoy the park for the whole day.
Reduced rates are available for children, seniors over 65, and groups, making it accessible to everyone.

Rules an Etiquette of Parco Giardino di Sigurtà

There are several rules to keep in mind during your visit to preserve the order and beauty of the Sigurtà Garden Park.

Inside the park, picnicking is allowed in the traditional manner with a blanket on the grass, but setting up tables is not permitted. Dogs are not allowed, except for guide dogs for the visually impaired. Feeding the animals (deer, goats, etc.) inside the park is also prohibited.

For the complete rules, I recommend reading them directly on the official website: https://www.sigurta.it/regolamento

How to visit the Park

Parco Giardino Sigurtà is vast—60 hectares of pure beauty—and you can explore it all on foot.
Alternatively, you can use a shuttle, be guided by a tour guide, take the train, or rent a bike.

I chose the more expensive option, but in my opinion, also the funniest one: the golf cart. At first, I was a bit intimidated as the steering wheel seemed to have a mind of its own, but in the end, I discovered I was quite the driver!

Cost: €18 per hour, with discounts on subsequent hours.

Points of Interest at Parco Giardino Sigurtà

Parco Giardino Sigurtà is full of natural wonders and scenic points of interest. One of the most famous attractions is the Rose Avenue, a one-kilometer path lined with over 30,000 roses, offering a unique spectacle. Other notable spots include the quiet Dog Cemetery, located next to a pond adorned with pristine water lilies, and the romantic Lovers’ Bench, added in 2018.

Don’t miss the charm of the Horizontal Sundial, the Maze, the Water Gardens, and Laura’s Hermitage. Admire the Castelletto, the Great Oak, the Deer Valley, the Medicinal Plant Garden, and the Votive Cave.

For kids, the Educational Farm offers an unforgettable experience with donkeys, sheep, goats, and many other animals. A true paradise for nature lovers!

Park Events

Each year, and even in 2020, the park organizes popular events such as “The Magical World of Cosplay” on September 5, “A Journey Through Time” with 1800s costumes on September 20, and the “Spring Run, Rock Edition” on September 27.

I visited on September 5, and seeing all those people in their magnificent costumes was truly a beautiful spectacle! Only on this occasion can you see Jack Sparrow walking alongside Cinderella in such a stunning, magical setting!

Other useful Information

Inside the park, there are various dining areas, public restrooms, and parking areas next to each attraction where you can leave your golf cart or bike and stroll across the lush green lawns while snapping countless photos!
