Among those who fell in love with her voice was the wizard of Masaré, a powerful yet lonely sorcerer who longed to win the heart of the aquatic maiden.

Desperate to reach her, the wizard sought the help of the wicked witch Langwerda, who devised a daring plan: he was to create a dazzling rainbow of precious gems between the peaks of Catinaccio and Latemar to lure the nymph to the surface. Additionally, he should disguise himself as a jewelry merchant to approach her without arousing suspicion.​

So he did. Using his magic, the wizard wove the most extraordinary rainbow ever seen, so brilliant it illuminated the entire valley. The nymph, mesmerized by this breathtaking sight, emerged from the water to admire it. But in his excitement, the wizard forgot to disguise himself! The moment the nymph recognized him, she grew frightened and disappeared forever into the depths of the lake.

Blinded by grief and anger, the wizard destroyed his own rainbow, shattering it into countless fragments that fell into the lake’s waters. From that day on, Carezza Lake has reflected all the colors of the rainbow, as if still holding onto the memory of that tragic love story that was never meant to be.
