10 Outdoor Restaurants in Bologna to Escape the Heat

10 Outdoor Restaurants in Bologna to Escape the Heat This Summer
In Bologna, summer can get really hot. When evening comes, all you want is to find a nice spot to dine outdoors, enjoying a light breeze, without spending a fortune and still eating well!
Too much to ask? Not at all! You just need to plan a little—or simply read this post!
But if you’re struggling to decide, here’s my list of favorite Outdoor Restaurants in Bologna that check all the boxes, whether in the city center or just outside. I’ve often found myself in this situation: too hot to cook but unsure where to dine to Escape the Heat…
So, I decided to put together this list for you (and for myself, since I always have too many ideas in my head and forget them at the worst moments!).
COSA TROVERAI IN QUESTO POST:
SignorVino
The first Outdoor Restaurant in Bologna on the list is right in Piazza Maggiore.
A restaurant set under the portico of Palazzo del Podestà, right in front of the giant screen of the annual open-air cinema in Piazza Maggiore. You might think that being in such a prime location would make it overpriced, but you’ll be pleasantly surprised! This wine bar with a kitchen offers excellent wines, great food, and fair prices.

Podere Riosto
Podere Riosto, nestled in the hills of Pianoro in the cool Colli Bolognesi, is a family-run farm since 1954, producing and serving extraordinary local delicacies! Here, you can enjoy a unique and romantic summer experience: dining between the vineyard rows, with a breathtaking view!
The menu follows the theme of local specialties and in-house products. A wonderful option to dine outdoors and Escape the Heat! Read my complete review here
📍 Where: Via di Riosto 12, Pianoro (BO)
Osteria Santa Caterina
Open year-round, but in the summer, Osteria Santa Caterina unveils its charming courtyard. If you’ve never seen it, I highly recommend it! That’s why it makes it into my list of Outdoor Restaurants in Bologna!
Their menu includes charcuterie boards with different combinations of Italian and international cured meats, and the main courses feature classic Bolognese dishes and Italian traditional recipes. Don’t miss their daily specials, always changing! To pair with your meal, they offer an extensive wine selection.

Scaccomatto agli Orti
Scaccomatto is a well-established name among Bologna’s food lovers, and in summer, it moves to Via della Braina, where you can dine under twinkling fairy lights in a beautifully curated lawn, creating a magical and romantic atmosphere.
Dinner is available by reservation only, featuring a set seafood menu with five courses, including wine, for €50 per person.
📍 Where: Via della Braina 7
Borgo Mameli
Opened in July 2020, this “village” just outside Porta San Felice feels like a charming square filled with tables.
Here, you’ll find three different kitchens catering to every appetite. Whether you want a rich aperitivo or a full dinner, you can choose from grilled meat, seafood, or gourmet pizza from Pizzeria Ranzani. Live music adds to the vibrant atmosphere, played from the windows overlooking the courtyard.
📍 Where: Piazza di Porta San Felice 3
Ca’shin Ristorante
Nothing beats escaping the heat by retreating to the Colli bolognesi. Nestled in Parco Cavaioni, this chic farmhouse is not just a restaurant but also a venue for family-friendly events.
Open in summer and winter, their indoor and outdoor seating is beautifully designed. Their homemade pasta and main courses are delicious, and the vegetables are fresh from their own garden.
📍 Where: Via Cavaioni 1
Il Boccone del Prete
Located inside Golf Club Siepelunga, this elegant and welcoming restaurant boasts one of the best views of Bologna.
Their wine selection and service are excellent, and the food gets better every year. They offer both meat and seafood menus, and their desserts are as beautiful as they are delicious. Perfect for any occasion, whether it’s a casual dinner with friends, a romantic date, or a business gathering.

Antica Hostaria Rocca di Badolo
A little outside Bologna but absolutely worth it! Make sure to ask for a table on the terrace with a stunning view of the Calanchi hills!
This rustic spot is famous for its homemade pasta, and their grilled meat dishes are always a great choice. High-quality wines, reasonable prices. Definitely worth a visit!
📍 Where: Via Brento 4, Badolo (BO)
Osteria dal Nonno
Among the Outdoor Restaurants in Bologna to Escape the Heat, Osteria dal Nonno is a classic!
It feels like home, but with breathtaking views of the Bolognese hills. The panorama is stunning, especially at sunset! Their traditional crescentine with cured meats and cheese are a must-try.
📍 Where: Via di Casaglia 62
La Rizzola, new Camporella
Just outside Bologna, in Calderara, I discovered a truly spectacular place!
In a lush green field behind a large farmhouse, you’ll find hay bales used as tables and chairs for an unconventional aperitivo. Alternatively, you can sit between vineyard rows on soft blankets. The atmosphere is magical, surrounded by string lights.
You can choose between a vegetarian or traditional picnic box (€10) and drinks (€8), or opt for a seated dinner in this bucolic setting.
📍 Where: Via G. Mazzini, 5, 40012 Calderara di Reno BO
