Arriving at Cape Sounion at sunset is one of the most beautiful day trips you can take from Athens. I personally did this trip, and it was truly magnificent and incredibly atmospheric. Just half an hour’s drive from central Athens, you can visit the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion, a promontory overlooking the sea that becomes beautifully bathed in a magical light at sunset.
