COSA TROVERAI IN QUESTO POST:
The Romantic Village of Vinci
If you’re looking for the perfect place for a romantic escape, Vinci is the ideal choice. I was enchanted by its picturesque streets, alleyways, countryside views, and charming brick houses.
As you wander through the maze of narrow streets near the Castle, you’ll notice a marvelous tribute to Leonardo by Mario Cerioli: a modern wooden representation of the famous Vitruvian Man!
A visit to the Leonardo Museum is a must! It offers a fascinating exhibition divided between Leonardo’s Birthplace and the adjacent farmhouse, inviting visitors to explore the places and landscapes that inspired the Renaissance genius. Vinci offers much more than expected, inviting visitors to discover its authentic beauty.
Among its wine bars, stone-built buildings, and terraces overlooking the vast countryside, Vinci captivates at first sight. You’ll wish the sun would never set, just to admire all this beauty a little longer!

Leonardo Museum
Right in the center of Vinci, the Palazzina Uzielli and the Castle of the Counts Guidi house the Leonardo Museum, the first two stops on our journey into the rediscovery of the Renaissance genius. The exhibition represents an extraordinary collection dedicated to the eclectic work of Leonardo da Vinci, the renowned scientist, technologist, and engineer of the Renaissance.
Inside this museum, you’ll find a vast array of models and studies covering Leonardo’s diverse interests—from his experiments on flight and water motion to his military inventions and optical innovations. The museum provides a comprehensive dive into Leonardo’s brilliant mind. The museum tour culminates on the panoramic terrace of the Castle of the Counts Guidi. From here, you can admire a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside—an endless source of inspiration!

The Leonardo Museum is much more than a simple exhibition; it is an exciting journey into the complex and multifaceted world of Leonardo da Vinci.
Tickets can be booked online through the museum’s online ticket office, by contacting the Tourist Office at +39 0571 933285, or via email at info@museoleonardiano.it. Tickets are also available for purchase on-site, and I personally recommend fully embracing the experience by getting the combined ticket for the Leonardo Museum + Birthplace for just €12.
Leonardo da Vinci’s Birthplace
The temporary closure of the main road from the center to Leonardo’s Birthplace gave us the chance to reach the famous Anchiano farmhouse via the Strada Verde (Green Road), a 3-km hiking path through a breathtaking landscape, surrounded by hundreds of olive trees along a dirt road.
About halfway along the route, you’ll come across this modern artwork that pays tribute to the legendary Vinci native: a giant face of Leonardo emerging from the ground.
After about a 30-minute walk, we arrived at the third stop of the museum itinerary, dedicated to the life of the Tuscan genius.
(Don’t worry—if you’re not a fan of trekking, Leonardo’s Birthplace is usually accessible by car or bus!)

This simple countryside house, perched on a hill, is where the great artist and inventor was born and spent his early years. Visiting this home allowed us to immerse ourselves in Leonardo’s childhood world and discover the origins of his extraordinary artistic career.
Inside the Birthplace, you’ll find a 3D audiovisual experience that uses modern technology to bring Leonardo’s intimate world to life and showcase his connection to the land. A life-sized hologram features an elderly Leonardo recounting his experiences and studies related to these places.
The interactive multimedia application “Leonardo Touch” allows visitors to explore Leonardo’s paintings and sketches, zooming in on details of his works, while the section “Leonardo’s Last Journey” presents a model reproducing the route Leonardo followed in 1516, from his journey from Rome to his final home at the Château du Clos Lucé in Amboise.
Vinci: A Kingdom of Culinary Delights
Tuscany is famous for its delicious cuisine, and Vinci did not disappoint us. In the heart of the village, you’ll find cozy restaurants and rustic trattorias offering traditional Tuscan dishes made with fresh, high-quality ingredients.
Right in the town center, I highly recommend “Il Ristoro del Museo,” a charming trattoria that serves only traditional dishes with genuine Tuscan hospitality!
Visiting Vinci was a perfect opportunity to try different types of bruschetta and pappardelle with hare and wild boar!
Even more delightful when paired with a fine glass of Chianti wine!

This place is much more than just the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci—it is a romantic retreat that captures the essence of Tuscany: art, nature, delicious food, and unforgettable moments.
Visiting this charming village will be a romantic experience that will remain engraved in your heart, giving you precious memories with your loved one. Discover its charm and let yourself be enchanted by the timeless romance of this Tuscan village.
