Saludecio is a charming painted village in the Rimini area, famous for its stunning mural art that decorate the walls of its houses.

If you’re searching for a peaceful corner of Emilia-Romagna, far from the crowds yet rich in history, art, and great food, Saludecio is a must-visit. This small village offers a unique experience, full of surprises and hidden charm. Let me take you on a journey to discover this enchanting place that is sure to captivate you.

Nestled in the Valconca valley, Saludecio is a hidden gem offering breathtaking views, tranquility, and mouthwatering cuisine. We spent two blissful days here and fell head over heels in love with this serene retreat.

A Dream Stay Among Villages and Nature

Valconca is one of the most beautiful valleys in Romagna, and Saludecio is its shining star.
During our visit, we explored nearby villages like Montegridolfo, Mondaino, and Montefiore Conca, but Saludecio stood out with its special charm.

Our stay was a birthday gift, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. We stayed at a cozy bed and breakfast that immediately felt like home—a place so welcoming we didn’t want to leave.

The Village of Saludecio

Saludecio boasts a fascinating medieval historic center that has evolved into a quintessential 19th-century hilltop village. With its elegant main street, municipal square, stately palaces, and picturesque corners, it exudes an old-world charm.

The village’s prominence in the 19th century inspired the 800 Festival, an annual summer event launched in 1983. This festival celebrates Saludecio’s rich historical and cultural heritage with historical reenactments, period dances, and events.
Today, Saludecio continues to shine as a treasure trove of art and culture. Through exhibitions, artistic displays, and performances, it preserves and promotes its unique traditions and enchanting atmosphere.

The Mural art of Saludecio

As soon as you step into Saludecio, past the imposing Church of San Biagio and the town square, you’ll find yourself surrounded by vibrant murals.
The murals are everywhere, varying in size and often holding hidden meanings inspired by literary works.

This open-air art trail, created in 1991 by Genius Loci artists from Castellabate-Salerno, showcases over 50 murals across the village. Each artwork celebrates 19th-century inventions—from cinema, photography, and the lightbulb to more curious innovations like comic books, the waltz, and even toilet paper—making for a truly unique and unforgettable visual experience.

Saludecio’s Scenic Viewpoint

Thanks to its elevated position, Saludecio offers stunning views of Valconca! From here, you can see Gradara, Fiorenzuola di Focara, the Romagna coastline, and even San Marino.

The best spot for these breathtaking vistas is Largo Santiago de Compostela, a must-visit for lovers of open spaces. Whether you start or end your visit here, this panoramic viewpoint will leave a lasting impression.

Where to Eat in Saludecio

After an enchanting stroll through the village at sunset, we dined at Gatta e Gazoia, a restaurant at the town’s entrance. Dining here is a dreamy experience, with stunning views as the backdrop.

The restaurant’s rustic yet cozy interior features a welcoming fireplace and wooden tables that invite relaxation.
The menu is a feast for the senses! Choosing what to order was a challenge, but we finally decided on a succulent rosemary-seasoned steak with balsamic radicchio and delicate ricotta and mortadella-filled dumplings in a rich sauce.

Exploring Nearby Villages

Saludecio is surrounded by fascinating villages and stunning landscapes! Start with Rimini, the queen of the Romagna Riviera, perfect for relaxation and fun. Then head to Montefiore Conca, a charming Malatesta village with postcard-worthy views of the Valconca.
