Beaches in Rhodes: East vs West

Before diving into the details of each beach, it’s important to understand the two sides of the island.

  • West Coast: exposed to the Aegean winds, it offers wild landscapes and waves perfect for surfers. You’ll find wide, quiet beaches here – ideal if you’re looking for peace, even though the sea in Rhodes can be rough on this side.
  • East Coast: much more sheltered, this area features calm bays, crystal-clear waters, and stunning coves. It’s perfect if you’re searching for a beautiful beach in Rhodes where you can swim safely or go snorkeling.

Both coasts have their unique charm – the west is more authentic and wild, while the east is more touristy and suitable for every kind of traveler.

Elli Beach: the city beach of Rhodes

Close to the old town of Rhodes lies Elli Beach, a long stretch of pale pebbles and one of the most convenient beaches in Rhodes for those staying in the city. Fully equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, it also offers bars, restaurants, and showers – perfect for families and couples.

Here, you’ll never run out of water activities in Rhodes: jet skis, diving centers, and even trampolines for diving. The sea in Rhodes at this point is deep and incredibly clear, ideal for swimming lovers. It may not be the most scenic spot on the island, but it’s definitely a beautiful beach in Rhodes if you’re looking for comfort and city vibes close to the old town.

Faliraki Beach: golden sand and lively atmosphere

Faliraki Beach is one of the liveliest and most famous beaches in Rhodes, perfect for those looking for fun and an active vacation. With over five kilometers of golden sand, it offers every kind of service: sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars, and water sports such as jet skiing, banana boating, and parasailing.

The area is also famous for its nightlife: clubs, cocktail bars, and discos keep the party going until late at night. Despite the crowds, the beach still has quiet spots where you can relax and enjoy the crystal-clear sea, making it a great place for both families and young people looking for fun.

Tsampika Beach: the long golden beach

Among the most beautiful beaches in Rhodes, Tsampika is one of the most famous. This long stretch of golden sand lies beneath rolling hills and the Monastery of the Virgin Tsampika, perched high above. Parking is free and spacious, and the beach is well-equipped with umbrellas, sunbeds, bars, and restaurants.

This beach in Rhodes is perfect for families thanks to its shallow waters and calm sea. You can also enjoy plenty of water activities in Rhodes here, such as banana boats, windsurfing, and pedal boats. And don’t miss the sunset – Tsampika is famous for its fiery skies that paint the sea in Rhodes in warm shades of orange.

Stegna Beach: authenticity and relaxation

If you’re looking for a beautiful beach in Rhodes that feels less touristy, Stegna is the right choice. Located near Archangelos, I stopped here on my way back to the Old Town after visiting Lindos. Stegna is loved mainly by locals – it’s long and peaceful, with alternating sandy and pebbly stretches and small seaside tavernas serving fresh fish.

Parking is free and easy to find along the main road. The water is calm and clear, great for swimming or snorkeling. You won’t find loud music or nightclubs here – Stegna keeps its authentic charm, perfect for enjoying the sea in Rhodes far from the crowds.

Anthony Quinn Bay: postcard-perfect snorkeling

Perhaps the most cinematic of the most beautiful beaches in Rhodes, Anthony Quinn Bay owes its name to the actor who filmed The Guns of Navarone here. It’s a small rocky bay surrounded by green cliffs, with intensely turquoise water.

There’s a small parking area right next to the bay, but it fills up quickly on sunny days. You can also park nearby at Plaka Beach, which has a larger lot and is within walking distance. The beach is equipped with umbrellas and sunbeds, but they’re limited, so come early. A wooden staircase leads from the parking lot down to the sea, and at the top, there’s a scenic bar-restaurant where you can have lunch with a view of this breathtaking sea in Rhodes.

Thanks to its rocky seabed, Anthony Quinn Bay is ideal for snorkeling; here, the sea reveals colorful fish and vivid shades of blue. A truly beautiful beach in Rhodes for those who love nature and the underwater world.

Plaka Beach: dazzling seabeds and total tranquility

Less famous than other beaches in Rhodes but absolutely worth visiting, Plaka lies right next to Anthony Quinn Bay. It’s divided into two areas: the larger part is perfect for families with plenty of umbrellas and sunbeds, while the smaller cove, closer to Anthony Quinn Bay, offers peace and shade under the pines.

We were lucky enough to find a spot here. You enter the sea via a small wooden pier, and the water is simply perfect: clear, cool, and dotted with smooth rocks polished by the waves. Tiny fish swim around your feet, making the experience even more magical.

For me, Plaka is THE most beautiful beach in Rhodes, especially if you love quiet spots and natural scenery. The free and spacious parking adds to the comfort, making it ideal for a full day of relaxation.

Kalithea Springs: history, sea and wellness

A truly unique beach in Rhodes is Kalithea Springs, just a few kilometers from the city. Here you will find not only sea and umbrellas, but also a restored oriental-style spa complex, which gives the place a unique charm.

The bay is sheltered and perfect for snorkeling. Sunbeds and elegant bars are available, and parking is paid but well organized. It is a beautiful beach in Rhodes if you want to combine relaxation, culture, and picture-postcard landscapes. In the evening, the atmosphere becomes even more evocative, with the sun setting behind the white domes of the spa complex.

The beaches of Lindos: ancient charm and transparent waters

No guide to the most beautiful beaches in Rhodes would be complete without mentioning Lindos. At the foot of the whitewashed village crowned by its acropolis lie two stunning beaches: Main Beach and St. Paul’s Bay.

Main Beach is sandy, lively, and well-equipped with restaurants and beach bars. St. Paul’s Bay, on the other hand, is smaller and more picturesque, with the sea in Rhodes forming a heart-shaped natural lagoon. Parking costs around 7€ per day, but the view of the bay and acropolis is absolutely worth it.

The water here is calm and turquoise, ideal for families and couples. Floating in this crystal sea in Rhodes while looking up at the ancient acropolis is a moment you won’t forget.

Kamiros Beach: peace and authenticity

On the less-visited west coast lies Kamiros Beach, a long sandy and pebbly stretch that offers quietness and space. It’s one of the most authentic beaches in Rhodes, perfect for travelers seeking solitude and sunsets. It’s not equipped, so bring your own essentials.

Parking is free, and the constant wind makes this spot ideal for windsurfing and kitesurfing. The waves can be strong, but the beauty of this side of the sea in Rhodes is undeniable. The sunsets here are pure magic.

Rhodes is an island that wins every traveler’s heart – especially for its sea. From postcard-perfect coves like Anthony Quinn Bay to long sandy stretches such as Tsampika and Stegna, and the wild western shores of Kamiros and Kalavarda, everyone can find their own beautiful beach in Rhodes.

If you love calm waters and snorkeling, choose the east coast; if you prefer wind and untamed nature, go west. And beyond relaxation, remember that the water activities in Rhodes let you experience the sea in many different ways, from surfing to diving to simple boat rides.

Exploring the most beautiful beaches in Rhodes means discovering the true essence of the island, where sea and history blend together to create emotions that stay with you long after you’ve left.

Kalavarda Beach: a surfer’s paradise

Also on the west coast, Kalavarda Beach is a hidden gem I discovered thanks to Dimitri, the bartender at our hotel. It’s one of the favorite beaches in Rhodes for surfers, thanks to the strong and steady wind that creates perfect waves for water activities in Rhodes like windsurfing and kitesurfing.

Parking is free, and there’s a lovely restaurant (Kalavarda Sea House) right by the water where we had a fantastic dinner while watching the sunset over the sea in Rhodes. It’s not an organized beach, but that wild atmosphere is what makes it truly special. As the sun goes down, the sky turns red and gold – an unforgettable sight.

A truly beautiful beach in Rhodes for those who love adventure, long walks, and breathtaking landscapes.
