Guided tour of Transylvania: visiting Bran Castle, Brasov and Peles Castle on an unforgettable day

Waking up before sunrise with sleepy eyes, a bus ready to leave, and a full day ahead made of legends, castles and winding roads through Romania. My Guided tour of Transylvania started exactly like this: simple, a little tiring, but already filled with that feeling that something memorable was about to happen.
A full-day journey through Transylvania is one of those experiences that manages to compress history, landscapes and storytelling into just a few intense hours. In about 12 hours, you move between three iconic places: Bran Castle, the charming village of Brașov, and the elegant Peleș Castle.
The tour started early in central Bucharest, from University Square, one of the main meeting points for any Guided tour of Transylvania.
It was raining heavily that morning (actually the only rainy day of the entire trip XD) but somehow it fit perfectly with the atmosphere of Transylvania from Bucharest, almost like the weather wanted to enhance the mystery of the day.
Around 6:30 AM our coach arrived: comfortable, organized, and ready for a long journey. Even though I’m usually not a big fan of organized trips, I have to admit that a Guided tour to explore the most famous places of Transylvania is by far the most practical way to explore this region in a single day.

Driving Transylvania from Bucharest on your own would be complicated and exhausting, especially with the distances and tight timing between stops.
Booking through platforms like GetYourGuide makes everything easier, with transport, guide, and logistics already handled.
COSA TROVERAI IN QUESTO POST:
First stop: Bran Castle
After about two and a half hours through hills, villages, and mountain roads, we reached the legendary Bran Castle.
Seeing this Castle for the first time is exactly what you imagine when thinking about Transylvania. It sits on a hill surrounded by forest, with a mysterious silhouette that perfectly matches its reputation.
Inside Bran mansion, the atmosphere becomes even more fascinating: narrow corridors, wooden stairs, and rooms that feel suspended in time. It’s not a luxurious palace, but that simplicity makes it even more atmospheric.

Vlad the Impaler and Dracula’s legend
One of the most interesting parts of any Guided tour of Transylvania is hearing the story of Vlad III, better known as Vlad the Impaler.
Although Bran Castle is often linked to Dracula, Vlad never actually lived there. The connection is mostly symbolic, shaped by literature and popular culture rather than historical fact.
Still, during the visit, the guide brings these stories to life in a way that makes Bran mansion even more captivating.

Second stop: the town of Brașov
After Bran Castle, the journey continues toward the beautiful town of Brașov, one of the highlights of any Guided tour of Transylvania.
The old center of the town of Brașov is colorful, lively, and incredibly well preserved. Even with limited time, it’s enough to get a real sense of its charm.
Key highlights in the town of Brașov include Council Square, the Black Church, and the pastel-colored houses that line the historic streets.

During a Guided tour, time here is short but meaningful. You might grab a quick bite or simply walk around the main square, but everything runs on a strict schedule, so punctuality is essential.

From plains to mountains
Leaving Brașov, the landscape changes dramatically. The scenery becomes more mountainous, the air fresher, and the atmosphere almost fairytale-like.
This part of Transylvania is where you truly understand how diverse the region is. It’s not just about castles—it’s about constant change in landscapes and mood.
And then comes the final highlight of the day.
Final stop: Peleș Castle
The grand finale of tis tour of Transylvania is Peleș Castle, located in Sinaia. If Bran Castle is about mystery, Peleș Castle is about elegance and royal refinement. Built as a summer residence for King Carol I of Romania, it is one of the most beautiful castles in Europe.
The architecture of Peleș is breathtaking: Neo-Renaissance German style mixed with Gothic and Baroque influences, surrounded by mountain scenery that makes it even more impressive.

Inside Peleș, every room has a different style. Wood carvings, stained glass, luxurious furniture, and detailed decorations tell the story of the Romanian royal family.
During a Guided tour, this is often the most impressive stop, thanks to both the interiors and the historical explanations provided by the guide.

Return to Bucharest
After visiting Peleș Castle, the journey back begins. The return to Bucharest is quiet and reflective. After a full Guided tour of Transylvania, you sit on the bus tired but full of impressions, watching the Romanian countryside pass by as the sun goes down.
Travelling Transylvania from Bucharest in this way gives you the feeling of having crossed multiple worlds in just one day.

If I had to sum it up, a Guided tour of Transylvania is a dense mix of history, legends, and landscapes.
Bran mansion offers mystery and folklore, Brașov brings authenticity and charm, and Peleș Castle delivers pure elegance and history.
A journey through Transylvania like this is fast-paced, but incredibly rewarding. In just one day, you experience three completely different atmospheres, each with its own identity.
And yes…after a day like this, I would do another Guided tour of Transylvania exactly the same way without changing a thing.
Sometimes the best travel days are the ones that feel a little intense while they’re happening, but unforgettable once you’re back home. This was exactly one of those experiences: a long day, full of impressions, that somehow stays with you much longer than expected.
