What to know before you go
Planning a trip here is easier than you might think. Bosnia is easily accessible from Italy, and Bosnia by car is truly beautiful, perfect for a road trip. The main roads are in good condition, although in some more rural areas they can be a bit rough.
An important aspect to keep in mind is the currency: the euro is not used here. The official currency is the Bosnia and Herzegovina Convertible Mark (BAM). In many tourist areas you can still pay in euros, but change is almost always given in the local currency, so it’s a good idea to carry some cash.
As for documents, I recommend bringing your passport, some border guards can be quite strict!

Among the must-see stops is definitely Sarajevo, a city that tells complex yet fascinating stories, where mosques, churches, and synagogues stand just a short walk from each other. Then there’s Mostar, with its famous bridge and a historic center that feels frozen in time.
Nature lovers will be in their element: from the Kravica waterfalls to lesser-known mountain landscapes, perfect for hiking and moments of pure relaxation.
If you’re thinking about going, keep in mind that there are plenty of itinerary options, suitable for both short trips and more in-depth explorations.
